It has come to the attention of The Hip Rhythm Digest that
many drummers, world wide, are simultaneously having
the same hallucination and are suddenly thinking that the
drum stick in their hand has become a ball,
and when they are informed of the reality that
they are holding a hammer not a ball,
their hallucinations increase and they begin to insist that
they are free of the effects of gravity and anatomy
because the stick is a ball.
Originally it was thought that this hallucination was spread
by personal contact with infected drummers Chapin and
Gruber, but the hallucination has been transfered
to a DVD that drummers merely have to watch prior to
exhibiting this strange behavior.
The Hip Rhythm's staff are trying to
get to the bottom of these alarming reports,
Hopefully these hallucinations can be stopped
before too many drummers permanently lose touch
with reality.

Sorry to burst your bubble.. but this technique of using a firm grip and pulling up will only take you so far... especially in terms of sound... when you are playing drums everything needs to be relaxed... re evaluate what you are doing.
gregi314 - Put aside the preconceptions implanted by your teachers and open your mind a little to the possibility that I might be talking about something you know nothing about.
I've played drums professionally twice as long as you've been alive. Maybe in all that time I may have learned a thing or two.
Why do you assume my playing is not relaxed?
And what makes you think following principals of motion and anatomy are going to lead to tension or an inferior sound?
please enlighten me.
what am I ignorant of
that you think you know
to be correct?
Although I suffer from laziness often, I struggle daily to study and practice without laziness. The younger people I have met all seem to want to play drums -- 'the easier softer way' and this translates to bouncing the stick off of things without actually holding it at all. Or if they hold onto it at all, it's only to hit the drum using a big arm motion. I call them 'meatheads' and they can be found around every corner. The concepts of Gravity, Inertia, and Centrifugal Force are much too tedious concepts for these people to learn about and employ.(fulcrums and all that) They are gonna bounce a ball and thats all they will ever be capable of.
Hey Greg did you ever hear of turning your wrist?
